Dr. Sufian delivered a presentation highlighting the historical development and institutional role of the Feed Manufacturers in shaping the animal feed industry in Tanzania.
In his remarks, he noted that feed quality is no longer a primary constraint within the sector. He attributed this progress to advancements in production technology and improved access to high-quality raw materials, particularly maize and soybean.
According to Dr. Sufian, these developments have positioned Tanzania’s feed industry at competitive global standards, marking a significant milestone in the sector’s evolution.
However, he raised critical concerns regarding the capacity of the Tanzania Veterinary Laboratory Agency (TVLA), particularly in relation to feed testing infrastructure.
Key challenges identified include:
- Inadequate laboratory equipment to match industry growth
- Delays in feed testing and certification processes
- Limited capacity to test certain essential minerals and vitamins
He emphasized that as the feed industry continues to expand, regulatory and testing institutions must evolve in parallel to avoid becoming a bottleneck to growth and quality assurance.
In addition, Dr. Sufian highlighted the increasing impact of misinformation within the poultry sector, noting that unverified claims can significantly undermine consumer confidence in poultry products.
He called on the Ministry to take a more proactive role in addressing misinformation by issuing timely clarifications, providing accurate information, and publicly disputing unfounded claims that may harm the sector.
